LOVELY, Paul W.
Kalamazoo, MI Paul departed this life on June 22, 2009, after a long illness. He was born August 23, 1922 to Claude and Atha Hobbs Lovely, in Middletown, Ohio. He spent his childhood in Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan, with his brothers, William and Jack and sister, Willa Mae. Paul attended a boarding school, Frenchburg High School in Kentucky, working his way through by doing a variety of jobs on campus. Paul always remembered those days fondly. In December 1942, Paul began his military service with the Air Transport Command, training at the Curtis Wright Factory in Buffalo, NY, to be a crew chief for maintenance on the C-46 transport planes. During the war, Paul was stationed at MisaMira, India, where Paul and his crew kept planes ready to fly across the Hump into China. He later became a member of the Hump Pilots Association. After the war, Paul married Vera Whitney and sons Martin and William were born. After Vera passed away, Paul married Vivian Troutman, and son, Tom was born. In 1960, Paul helped form the Northwood Little League. Paul spent 25 years working at Sutherland Paper Company, ending his employment in 1970 to begin Lovely's Greenhouses, which he operated with his family until his retirement. Paul enjoyed his family and friends, his Dachshunds, Springer Spaniels, hunting and bowling. Paul is survived by his wife, Vivian; his son Martin and his fiancé, Nadine Day; grandson, Adam; son, William; son, Tom and his wife, Carol and their son, Chris; sister, Willa Mae Spradling; many niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, William and Jack. Paul was a 3rd Degree Mason and a Shriner for over 50 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Rev. Raymond Hess officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Please visit
