Paul Robert Lawson

April 28, 1951 — December 7, 2023

Paul Robert Lawson, (72) was called home the morning of December 7, 2023. Paul was born on April 28, 1951, in Kalamazoo, MI, to the late Robert Long and Elizabeth Josephine (Wilder) Lawson.

Paul graduated from Hackett Catholic Central in 1969. After endless searching, he found the love of his life, Nancy (Niles) Lawson. Paul and Nancy tied the knot on August 26, 1978 and were married for 33 years. Paul stayed devoted to her until his death.

In the late 70s, Paul started his career working for Bel-Aire Heating and Cooling. He spent nearly 4 decades mastering his craft and was an expert in heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Many called him one of the best they had ever seen. Paul was always very appreciative of the Lambright family and what they did for him and the opportunities they gave his boys.

Paul was a man of many talents. He was an extremely hard worker and worked his little butt off to provide for his family. He passed many of his talents on to his boys. They could often be found attached to his hip, driving him nuts, learning, asking to help, and handing him the next tool he needed as he made improvements and repairs to the family home.

Paul did much for his boys, including stepping up to be the Den Leader when they were in Cub Scouts. They had many adventures and learned more life skills while camping, exploring nature, team building, practicing first aid, knife safety and possibly even how to start fires with gasoline (well maybe not gasoline).

Loving memories were made during the long summer nights and early morning hours when the family would load up the van and head out on fishing quests.

Paul was very proud of his boys, their resilience and ability to continually grow as they spread their wings and blossomed into good men with big hearts.

In his retirement, he spent countless hours volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic Church, supporting and running the food pantry, ushering, acting as a servant of God by delivering communion and visiting the sick.

Paul cherished the time he had with his grandchildren and the memories they made together.

Paul is survived by his children: Robert (Elizabeth) Lawson of Southfield, MI, Patrick Lawson & (Delia Stafford) of Kalamazoo, MI, John (Leah) Lawson of Kalamazoo, MI, and Susan Statler of Bear Lake, MI; and his grandchildren: Xavier, Jacob, Chaise and Caide. Paul is also survived by his sisters: Gloria Lawson-Sharp, Angela Cronk and Mary (Lawson) Kane, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, his parents and brother Tracy Lawson.
