Portage, Michigan Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. She was born September 29, 1929 in Chicago, graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1947 and lived in the Kalamazoo area most of her life. Preceding her in death are her first husband, Roger Boven and her son, Tom Boven. Pat is survived by her husband, Ted Schaafsma of Portage; her two sons, Dan Sue Boven and Craig Jean Boven; a daughter, Sue Jon Conklin; two step-daughters, Roberta Don Bailey Schaafsma and Joanne Steve Griffioen; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan & Brian Conklin, Rebecca Boven, Lauren & Travis Boven; 2 step-grandchildren, Kelly & Tom Griffioen; and a cousin, Virginia Bontrager. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Trinity Reformed Church, 326 W. Cork St. beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. After a luncheon at the church, a private committal service will take place in the Meadowbrook Cemetery in Mulliken, MI. Due to the loss and struggles of family and friends, the family would prefer that any memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
