MC COLL, Patricia Ann
Of Kalamazoo Pat passed away peacefully on October 21, 2012 at the age of 78 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born on September 15, 1934 to Dr. Robert and Alice Grove in East Chicago, Indiana, the eldest of their four children. Pat attended Dyer High School and then went on to attend Indiana University and the University of Michigan, where she graduated with her bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene. While attending the University of Michigan, she met her future husband John Alexander McColl, MD and the two were married December 28, 1956. They settled in Kalamazoo after graduation and have lived here and in Punta Gorda, Florida since that time. Pat is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert. She is survived by her husband John of Kalamazoo, sisters Judith Alan Perlman of Elizabeth, Colorado, Martha Leonard Yuknis of Wasilla, Alaska, daughters Cathy Dale Sunlin of Lawton, Michigan, Elizabeth Wayne Gurley of Paw Paw, Michigan, sons John K. Valerie McColl of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and William Carrie McColl of Nebo, Kentucky, her granddaughters Aimee Patrick Sunlin Benedict of Martin, Michigan, Erin Sunlin, Alexis Sunlin, and Marisa Sunlin of Lawton, Michigan, her grandsons Deaglan McColl and Ronin McColl of Nebo, Kentucky and a great grandson Cameron Benedict of Martin, Michigan. Throughout her life, Pat's primary joy in life revolved around her family and in giving to others. She grew up with her grandparents living close by in the neighborhood and held family ties and values very dearly. As her own family grew, she delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Pat was a life-long member of Beta Sigma Phi, active in chapters in both Kalamazoo, Michigan and Charlotte Harbor, Florida. She served as President in both chapters, along with holding other offices over the years. For a number of years, she was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and developed lasting relationships with many of her scouts. She held a private pilot's license and loved to fly. Pat and John travelled extensively throughout the United States, and spent many happy years sailing the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Lakes. The Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday November 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Kiva at Friendship Village.
