Patricia C. Benson

Patricia Charlene Benson passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born in Detroit, MI on September 19, 1941, to the late Charles E. and Vernice A. (Lancaster) Grumman. Patricia spent her career as a teacher for Schoolcraft Public Schools and, after retirement, served as an instructor with the Literacy Project. She took her own education very seriously as well, obtaining a master’s degree in business education. She was an intensely private person but gave great attention to other people’s needs and was sensitive to the feelings of others. Patricia was active with the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, the Kalamazoo Association of Retired School Personnel, and volunteered with the Red Cross. Patricia was a fierce lover of animals and a competitive golfer. She married Carl Benson on June 29, 1963, in Mancelona.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Carl; one sister, Elaine J. Lazo; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 4 pm to 6 pm and Tuesday, December 19 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 3926 S 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue 4669 Executive Dr. Portage, MI 49002, in memory of Patricia Benson.
