WILKINS, Mr. Ora Lavon
of Augusta, MI Went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday morning October 26, 2011 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Ora was born August 16, 1917 in West Unity, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Hazel Meyers Wilkins and was a lifelong Gull Lake resident. Ora was a charter member of the Gull Lake Bible Church where he served in various capacities. He retired from the Upjohn Company in 1982 after 37 years of service as an Instrument Technician. He played softball as a pitcher for his church team and on the 55 team called the Coover Warriors At the age of 92 he bought his first Wave Runner and took it out for a ride Labor Day Weekend 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anne VanDam Wilkins, deceased 2007 of 67 years, to whom he was married to on April 14, 1940; his oldest son Dennis and his siblings, brothers: George and Maurice Wilkins and sisters: Velma Wilkins and Vivian Wilkins Parrott; and a granddaughter-in-law, Danette Wilkins. He is survived by a daughter-in-law Mary Carol Wilkins of Gull Lake, and two sons and their spouses, Larry and Barbara Wilkins of Canton, NC, James and Wendy Wilkins of Battle Creek; 6 grandchildren, Dennis "Spark" Wilkins, Dean andDeanna Wilkins, David andSallyWilkins, Amy Hank Schmidt, Becky Kevin Bryant; Chad Lacey Wilkins, 10 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Dillon, Morgan, Joshua and Baylee Wilkins, Jess and Jonah Schmidt; Casey Anne, Nathan and Allison Bryant; many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1 o'clock Saturday at the Gull Lake Bible Church, 1491 Midland Dr., Hickory Corners with the Rev. Paul Deal officiating. Private interment will follow in Day Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8pm Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Memorial contributions to Ora's memory may be made to the Gull Lake Bible Church or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice Program.
