VANDERBERG, Mr. Olin F.
Portage, MI Died Tuesday morning April 7, 2009 at his residence. Olin was born March 2, 1918 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Harold and Helen Daniels Vanderberg. He graduated from Western Michigan University where he lettered in Basketball and Tennis. Upon graduation, he also taught and coached at several high schools. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life and was Principal of Pershing Elementary School from 1951 to 1980. Olin was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church; and the Kalamazoo Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Sheryl Vanderberg and Marcia Ledbetter; a daughter-in-law, Nadine Vanderberg; a brother, Vic Vanderberg; and a sister, Jean McKay. On November 22, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mildred L. Spitler Vanderberg who survives. Also surviving, a son, Jon Vanderberg of Portage; 4 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 7028 Oakland Drive. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
