of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born on June 19, 1924, the son of the late William and Lily Shafer. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for several years as a mechanic, repairing vending machines. Norval was married to Jessie Marie Downs on June 22, 1946; she preceded him in death on January 21, 2008. He is survived by his niece and her husband, Amy and Reid Naidoo, who he always thought of as his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his three children, David, Gary and Alan Shafer; one brother and one sister. No funeral service is planned. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
