Norma Jean (Smith) Shepler, age 86, born March 13, 1934 in Petoskey, MI, daughter of Jim and Reva Smith, and passed on May 7, 2020 at Fountainview of Portage. She spent early childhood in Harbor Springs before moving to Lansing. At Lansing Eastern High School, Norma met the love of her life Loyal E. Shepler, Jr., and they were married on December 9, 1951. Together for 59 years, she and Loyal in their later years spent their time between Sandy Pines, MI and St. Cloud, FL.

Norma's life was her family. She loved being outdoors, camping with family and friends, playing games, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: Penny (Tom) Sportel, Mike (Mary) Shepler, Tom Shelper (Deby Jajuga); 5 grandchildren: Shaun (Jenny) Sportel, Amy (Garron) Vasilion, Matt (Liz) Sportel, Dustin (Lisa) Shepler, Tyler (Jana) Shepler; 9 great-grandchildren: Sienna & Sawyer Sportel, Max & Oliver Vasilion, Ashtin, Emma & Baker Shepler, Mason Sportel, Easton Shepler; sister Nelda Wardell.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Loyal; her parents Jim and Reva Smith; and by brothers: Jim (Emma) Smith and Fred (Joan) Smith.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life and burial will take place at a later date to be announced. Memorials in Norma's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan, or Fountainview of Portage.
