DELACH, Nicholas E.
of Mattawan, MI Nick went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, October 19, 2012. He was born April 15, 1924 in Mattawan, the son of Nicholas and Catherine Delach Delach. Nick was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was employed by National Gypsum Co. for 36 years and later worked for 5 years for the Sisters of St. Joseph at Fontbonne Manor. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a life member of VFW Red Arrow Post #1527 and American Legion Paw Paw Post #68. Nick was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all, Nick was an amazing storyteller who loved spending time with his family, visiting and telling stories. On October 25, 1947, Nick was united in marriage to Donna Fay Delach, who preceded him in death on May 16, 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents; son-in-law, Rick Thomas; three sisters, Madeline Kendall, Rosie Hirsch and Mary Gregorek; and two brothers, Tony and Johnnie Delach. Surviving are his two children, Linda Thomas of Mattawan and David Sarah Delach of Allegan; five grandchildren, Michelle Dennis Aker, Matt Heidi Thomas, Anne Tripp, Joni Stoughton and Chris Delach; twelve great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alexander and Madeline Thomas, Jessica Lewis, Darren Allison Lewis, Cory Lewis, Jacob Carr, Amber Otto, Crystal and David Misner, Jamie Miles and Christy Herrick; three great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Annie Kimball; 1 brother, Willie Delach; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street, with Msgr. Michael Hazard celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with a rosary being recited at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association or VFW Post #1527.
