EAGER, Mr. Nelson E.
Kalamazoo, MI Passed away peacefully Thursday morning January 3, 2008 at home with his wife, Lettie at his side. Nelson was born January 12, 1927 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Deo and Cornelia VanBallegooyen Eager. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy as a gunner on the USS Lexington in the Pacific. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 23 years, retiring in 1991. He faithfully attended the Friendship Wesleyan Church in Plainwell. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening and was devoted to his family and country. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers and their wives, Deo, Marlene Eager Jr. and Robert Francis Eager. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Lettie J. Allworth Eager whom he married on May 9, 1947. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2007. He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters, Diane Gregory Gustafson of Schoolcraft and Cheryl Steven Walker of Vicksburg; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Cheryl Gustafson of Portage, Ryan Angie Gustafson of Three Rivers, Jason Gustafson and his fiancé, Kelly Curiel both of Three Rivers, Amy Mathew Cray of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michelle Michael Russo of Tawas City, MI; 4 great-grandchildren, Korey Gustafson of Schoolcraft, Erica, Hannah, and Alysse Russo all of Tawas City, MI; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cap and Donna Kitsmiller and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Rose, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 o?clock Monday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Friendship Wesleyan Church in Plainwell or the Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
