Of Portage Passed away Thursday evening, March 11, 2010. Naoma was born July 25, 1922 in Kalamazoo the daughter of John and Pearl VanderSalm Orbeck. Naoma worked for several years with the Upjohn Company and later retired as bank manager from the former First Federal Savings and Loan. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cross stitch, bingo, and fishing at the lake. On December 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Henry Smit, who preceded her in death on October 29, 1986. Surviving are 3 daughters, Sherry Frank Simons, Vicki Kevin Kuss, Linda Bill Stannard; 8 grandchildren, Michael Vikki Ruffolo, Shannon Dan Bower, Jody Jackson, Tanya Tim Deary, Julie Ryan Willhauck, Tracy Lewis, Jamie Kristie Stannard, Angie Keith Deklein; and 19 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to a close family friend, Susie Becker, for the kindness and loving care given to their mother in her later years. Friends may meet the family Sunday afternoon from 3-5pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 o'clock Monday at the Portage South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. www.langelands.com
