BOUMA, Ms. Nancy K.
Of Portage
Nancy was welcomed into heaven on November 24, 2007. She was born July 4, 1958, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Armintha Scheffers Bouma. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Portage who graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School and Kalamazoo Valley Community College School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse in the neo-natal intensive care unit of Bronson Hospital for 12 years. Over the last 16 years, she suffered complications of diabetes, including multiple strokes, heart attacks and renal failure. In 1991, she received the gift of life, a kidney transplant from her cousin Joan, for which we are forever grateful. She is survived by her parents, John and Armintha Bouma of Portage; brothers, Ken Brenda of Kalamazoo, Jay and Steve of Portage; sister, Sally Brian Rishaw of Tempe, AZ; nephew, Lon Michelle Bouma; nieces, Brooke Casey Gill and Summer Bouma; great nephews, Ethan and Ezra Bouma and great niece, Ella Rae Gill. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. David Doan and his staff for 31 years of loving care, Bronson and Borgess Hospitals, the Laurels of Galesburg and the staff of Advisacare Home Health Care. The family will receive friends beginning Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Prairie Edge Christian Reformed 9316 Oakland Drive where Nancy was a member, with her Pastors Phil Kok and Harold Cupery officiating. A private family interment will be held in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials in Nancy?s memory may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
