SANBORN, Nada Marie Of Portage Passed away peacefully at Alterra Clare Bridge of Portage on Saturday, March 21, 2009 with her family at her side. Nada Marie Myers was born on January 12, 1921 in Dacoma, Oklahoma to Carl Henry and Effie Keith Myers. On July 10, 1943 she was united in marriage to Elmer C. Sanborn in Enid, Oklahoma. During high school, she worked at H. Kress Company in Enid, OK as a clerk and cashier. After World War II ended, she and her husband moved to Massachusetts where they attended Amherst College. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and Art. She taught school in Burlington VT before moving to Michigan. Later, she completed a degree in Library Science. She was an avid painter and studied at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. She also was involved with the West Michigan Art Guild and was active as President and Show Director for several years. Her passion though, was for her numerous private and juried showing of her work in oils, pastels and watercolors. She also taught private art classes. Nada was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, and infant son. Her daughter, Karen and her partner Audrey Wierenga, and her son, Tim and his wife Becky survive her. She also leaves her grandchildren: Angela Justin Johnson, Kevin Sanborn, Alex Sanborn, and Courtney Meer; and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Travis Johnson. Services will be held on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at Skyridge Church of the Brethren, 394 S. Drake Rd. The family will greet friends prior to the Service at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In-House Hospice - Music Therapy Program, 5360 Holiday Terrace, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, or the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, 314 S.
