N. E. 'Mac' McLain

McLAIN, N.E. "Mac"
Of Portage Mr. McLain passed away Saturday afternoon, December 8, 2012 at his home. He was born on August 20, 1919 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late William and Letha Randall McLain. Mac was a Sergeant in the United States Army, 99th Infantry, during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, The Battle of the Ruhr Pocket and the Battle of Central Germany. Mac also received a Presidential Unit Citation. He worked as a truck driver for several trucking companies in Kalamazoo and was a longtime member of Bethany Reformed Church. Surviving are his daughter, Kelly Bradford of Portage; two sisters, Josephine Burns of Kalamazoo and Maybelle Wilson Munn of Livonia and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his wife of 61 years, Frances Zuidema McLain; his parents; four brothers, Patrick, William, Benjamin, and Jack McLain and sister, Maxine Anson. Funeral services for Mac will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Bethany Reformed Church, 1833 S. Burdick Street, with Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Portage South Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Reformed Church or Mayo Clinic Foundation.
