VAN ALPHEN, Mr. Myndert
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Myndert, age 86, passed away Monday evening, January 12, 2009. Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Christine; his children, John and Gail Van Alphen of Zeeland, MI, Annette Van Alphen of Kalamazoo; grandson, Michael Van Alphen of Grand Rapids and close family friend, Denise Smith of Kalamazoo. Preceding him in death were one brother and four sisters. Myndert was born in Gameren, The Netherlands in 1922, and emigrated to Kalamazoo in 1952. He worked for 33 years at Georgia Pacific. Being an avid gardener he was particularly fond of his rose and tulip garden. Myndert with Christine volunteered for Meals on Wheels for fifteen years. He and Christine loved to travel both in the states and abroad. Myndert will be greatly missed not only by his many nieces and nephews, but by his many friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 10-11 AM at the Bethany Reformed Church 1833 S. Burdick St. where a service to celebrate Myndert's life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday with Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating. Following services a luncheon will be held in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bethany Reformed Church or Kalamazoo Senior Services.
