WESTFIELD, Monte Peter Of Portage , MI Monte Peter Westfield, age 72, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born June 4, 1937, in Muskegon, the son of John and Anna Hiddema Westfield and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1955. He served in the U.S Army before his career in sales for the printing industry. Monte treasured his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed every available weekend boating throughout his lifetime. His favorite quote comes from The Wind in the Willows: "There is nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Joan Hoolihan. Surviving are five children, Annalisa Ross Welling of Paw Paw, Monica Westfield of Portage, Stephen Patty Westfield of Goldsboro, NC, Kelly Westfield of Mattawan and Scott Joni Westfield of Grand Haven; eight grandchildren, Michaelia, Michael, Mariah, Jacob, Sarah, Katie, Bobby and Cody. In accordance with Monte's wishes cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Monte's life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, September 27 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Rev. Keith Lohman officiating. Family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
