Mirdza Gramatins

GRAMATINS, Mirdza Of Kalamazoo Passed away on July 18, 2007, in Portage, MI. She was born on December 4th, 1916 in Holm, Russia one of four daughters born to Alvils and Alma Ozols Kalnietis. Her family returned to Latvia, where Mirdza grew up. She loved children and taught school in Latvia, as well as later in Germany and the United States. On August 10, 1946, Mirdza was united in marriage to Alfreds Gramatins, in Wurzburg, Germany. After their son, Janis Alvils, was born, they were sponsored to the United States, where their daughter, Laima Ingrida, was born. Mirdza later worked at Michigan State University as a lab technician, retiring from there. She was a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo and enjoyed flowers, music, art, and positive people. Mirdza appreciated everyone who loved and supported her in her recent difficult time. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; and her sister, Aina Kalnietis. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Laima and Stephen Patton of Kalamazoo, and son and daughter-in-law, Janis Gramatins and Dace Blaumanis of Silver Spring, MD; sisters, Margarita Stipnieks and Maija Rozkalns, as well as other close relatives and friends in Latvia, Germany, Australia, and the United States. Funeral services for Mirdza will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Reverend Leons Viksne officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
