PIERCE, Millard Jr "Bud"
Of Climax Bud passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 16, 2008 at Borgess Nursing Home. He was born November 13, 1929 in Climax, one of nine children to Millard O. and Pauline Pierce. He was employed by Taylor Lumber for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1994. Bud was a member of the Comstock Fire Department for 3 years and the Galesburg/Charleston Fire Department for 48 ½ years. He was also a longtime member of the Portage-Schoolcraft Eagles Auxiliary # 3531. On December 24, 1947, Bud was united in marriage to Donna Hopkins, who preceded him in death in 1995. Also preceding him in death are 2 daughters, Vicki Burton, in 2004, and Kathy Pierce as an infant; and 2 sisters, Faye Osborn and Betty Mohney. Surviving are 1 daughter, Judy Jackielee Smith of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Stacey Tony Hitt of Kalamazoo, Jackielee II Jennifer Smith of Pembroke, FL, and Todd Miranda Smith of Plainwell; 9 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Rochelle, Bailee, Jordyne, Joshua, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Hailey, and Lydia; 2 brothers, Richard Louise Pierce of Climax, Raymond Dar Pierce of Climax; 4 sisters, Margie Steve of Augusta, Marie Mohney of Baldwin, Gert Chuck Allen of Climax, and Leona Phil Slaughter of Climax; special friend, Cleo Hammer of Climax; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funerals services for Bud will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek Street, with Chaplain Jack Roomsburg of the Galesburg/Charleston Fire Department officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Galesburg/Charleston Fire Association.
