HOGG, Mildred J.
Kalamazoo, Michigan Mildred Johanna Hogg passed away peacefully in her home on December 31, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Mildred was born September 10, 1921 in Petersburg, North Dakota, the youngest of five children born to Martin and Lena Hildremyr, both of whom emigrated from Norway. Mildred grew up in Petersburg then graduated from Waldorf College and the University of North Dakota. In 1947, she married John A. Hogg and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where Dr. Hogg was employed as a research chemist at the Upjohn Company now Pfizer Pharmaceutical; here they started a family and Mildred became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo. In 1959, they settled near Galesburg, Michigan on 30 beautiful acres and raised their three children among the rolling hills of junipers, maple groves, ponds and meadows. Mildred cultivated the spirit and beauty of the property that became known as Juniper Hill. She loved her rose garden, watching the wildlife around her home and helping her husband in his apiary pursuits. She was active in the community and participated in 4-H, American Field Service AFS and the local PTA. She cherished summer gatherings at Juniper Hill with grandchildren and family get-togethers at Petersburg Camp on Lake Plantagenet in Minnesota. Mildred's enduring faith and involvement with the First Presbyterian Church were very important to her. She was dedicated to the principles of the "Circle of Hope" women's church group where she developed wonderful life-long friendships. She joined the Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo and enjoyed creating lovely woven gifts for her family. Mildred is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. John A. Hogg of Kalamazoo, Michigan; children Karen E. Dacey of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, John T. Hogg Beth Underwood of Missoula, Montana, and Thomas A.
