Michael VanDam

VanDam, Michael William Kalamazoo, MI Passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Age 67. Michael was born in Jackson, MI on November 17, 1947, the son of William and Patricia (Dixon) VanDam. He served with the United States Marine Corps in Hotel Company 2nd Batallion 26th Marines during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Upjohn/Pharmacia/Pfizer for 31 years and co-owned and operated VanDam and Associates with his wife, Beth. Michael was a dedicated family man. Among his hobbies and interests, he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid NASCAR and University of Michigan Fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Beth (Weed) VanDam; two children, Jason VanDam of Grand Rapids and Betsi (Matt) Gromek of Mattawan; two grandchildren, Tate and Chase Gromek; his mother, Patricia VanDam; one brother, Patrick VanDam of Jackson; and numerous in-laws, extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William VanDam; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Mary Weed; one sister-in-law, Sue Loring; and one nephew, Tim Wotchko. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with the family from 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 13th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a rosary service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 14th, followed by a memorial Mass at 12 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family to establish an education fund for his grandchildren. Please make checks payable to Beth VanDam.
