BOWERS, Michael E. Portage Passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born January 30, 1950 in Flint, the son of Herbert E. and Dorothy Penzin Bowers and had lived in the Portage area for many years. He was a 1968 graduate of Portage Northern High School and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mike loved hunting, fishing, and camping, where he earned the title of "Camp Master". He also enjoyed softball and taking his granddaughter, Hannah, on hunting expeditions, to teach her the fine points of hunting. On May 16, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Motter, who survives. Mike is also survived by their daughters, Michelle Kaler and Teraesa Scott Boley all of Portage; grandchildren, Hannah and Austin; 4 special boys, Scotty, Stephen, Devon and Jordyn Boley; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy Nelson Vleugel; three brothers, Rick Janet Bowers of Portage, James Sue Bowers of Plainwell and Kevin Jean Bowers of Portage; a sister, Kim Mann of Kalamazoo; special in-laws; many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Pastor Bruce Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
