Merrill G. Provost

PROVOST, Merrill G. Of Galesburg Passed away Sunday evening, December 9, 2007 at his residence. Merrill was born October 3, 1939 in Portage a son of Leslie and Helen Hedges Provost. In his early years, Merrill served on the Portage Fire Department; then as the Schoolcraft Police Chief for several years; and then prior to his retirement in 1994 served 30 years as a Deputy with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department. In his spare time, Merrill enjoyed spending time with his family; along with fishing, woodworking, yard work, and just being outdoors. On June 18, 1960 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Connie Sosinski, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Scott Joann Provost, Kirk Provost, Adam Valerie Provost; 8 grandchildren, Douglas, Kelly, Jennifer, Kory, Alex, Jacob, Allie, and Mackenzie; 2 great-grandchildren, Mariah and Taylor; brothers and sister, Jim Shirley Provost, Lanny Berrianne Provost, Gay Moore; and several nieces and nephews. Merrill was preceded in death by a sister, Susan; and brother, Gale. Services to celebrate Merrill?s life will be held 2:00 o?clock Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel with Pastor Scott Burdick officiating. Friends may meet the family prior to the service from 12-2pm. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice. www.langelands.com
