PARK, Mrs. Melba J.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died Monday morning August 5, 2013. Melba was born June 27, 1930 in Flint, Michigan a daughter of Chester and Marion Townley Manning. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1941and was a graduate of Western Michigan University. Melba was employed as a teacher with the Gull Lake School System for 21 years before retiring. She was also a member of the Milwood United Methodist Church; and the Portage Senior Center. Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James L. Park on June 29, 1996; 2 sons, David and Stephen; 2 grandsons, Christopher and James; and a brother, Monte Manning. She is survived by 3 children, James Karen Lee Jr. of Rockledge, FL, Linda Sue Park of Kalamazoo, and Diana Lukins of Portage; 2 daughters-in-law, Wendy Park of Kalamazoo and Betty Jo Park of Portage; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb Edwards of Florida; a sister-in-law, Florence Manning of Grand Blanc, MI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Friday at the Milwood United Methodist Church, 3919 Portage St. Friends may meet the family 5-7 pm Thursday at the church.
