Kalamazoo Died July 28, 2007 at Bronson Hospital. Maynard was born November 2, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Meindert VanDyk and Tyna Herwich Meyer and was a lifelong Kalamazoo resident. He attended Christian Schools after which he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, discharged as a Sergeant. After his military service Maynard worked as a milkman at Lockshore Dairy and later at Eaton Manufacturing and finally at Jake Alphenaar & Sons Painting until his retirement. Maynard was a charter member of Faith Christian Reformed Church where he served as Elder and later was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church. On February 9, 1952, he was married to the former Jean Berryman of Grand Haven, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Bob Cathi VanDyk of Kalamazoo, Susan Michael Thayer of Portage and James Careane VanDyk of Mattawan; 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kevin, Mark, Alex and David VanDyk, Chris, Sean and Adam Thayer, Rhonda and Adam Salinas, and Michael and Justin Stratton; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Meyer of Otsego and Arlene Rudy Sabo of Grand Haven; several nieces and nephews. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Grace Sanford, Ann Kessler, Evelyn Slack, Josephine Balkema and Ann Knibbe and by brothers, Jacob and Neil Meyer, Sidney and John VanDyk and by 2 grandchildren, Anthony A.J. Thayer and Joseph VanDyk. Services will be held at 11:00 o?clock Wednesday at the Faith Chapel Ministries, 7736 West ?G? Ave. followed by full military honors at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial contributions in Maynard?s memory may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association or the charity of your choice. www.langelands.com 343-1508
