Maxine M Vanderberg

Died April 16, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. Maxine was born December 8, 1915, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Merton and Millie Nye Ward. A life long resident of Kalamazoo, she was graduated from Central High School and Western State Teachers College in 1937 with a degree in Physical Education. On October 15, 1936, she was married to Victor Daniel Vanderberg, who preceded her in death in 1981. Maxine was also preceded in death by: a daughter, Carol Ann DeVries; two brothers, Spencer and Harry Ward; Harry's wife, Dorothy; a sister, Mary Lou; brother-in-law, Olin Vanderberg and his wife, Millie; brother-in-law, Harry Schau and sister-in-law Jean McKay. Surviving are: three sons, Ward Mary Vanderberg, Thomas Vanderberg, and Terry PamelaVanderberg; three daughters, Janet Kenneth Horton, Vicki William Hightower and Linda Sue Vanderberg; a sister, Susan Schau; a brother, Edgar Ward; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A memorial service will be held 2:00 Wednesday afternoon at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 West Lovell Street, Kalamazoo, with The Rev. Beth McLaren, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Church, or to the Togetherness Group of North Presbyterian Church, 603 N. Burdick St, Kalamazoo, 49007, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or a charity of one's choice.
