HAWKS, Mrs. Maxine E. Yonkers
Portage, MI Passed away Sunday morning April 10, 2011 at Rose Arbor following a battle with cancer. Maxine was born September 24, 1920 in Atlanta, Michigan. She attended Portage Schools and graduated from Alba Academy of Beauty Culture and worked in beauty shops for 10 years. Maxine also worked at Ingersol Steel during the WWII years in the war effort. She later worked at the Upjohn Company. She was married to Edward F. "Andy" Hawks on December 31, 1955 and moved to Fort Wayne, IN and to New Haven, IN before returning to the Kalamazoo area in 1991. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Hawks on December 22, 1976; and a sister, Roberta Culver. She is survived by a son, Jim Sharon Yonkers of Schoolcraft; 2 grandchildren, Matt Yonkers of Front Royal, VA and Angie Doug Florinchi of Lawrence, MI; 6 step grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, Cole and Nathan; 15 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Wednesday, April 27th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
