WORMBRAND, Max N.
Of Portage Passed away Friday morning, July 16, 2010 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Max was born August 2, 1916 in Kalamazoo the son of Frank and Martha Neale Wormbrand. He was a veteran serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as a machinist at National Waterlift, which is now Parker-Hannifin. In his early years, Max enjoyed fishing; he later became interested in building and flying model radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Skyhawk Radio Control Club in Schoolcraft, and the Aerobatic Aces in Three Rivers. On January 1, 1948, Max was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Bernice Wood, who preceded him in death on February 12, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Elzinga; and a brother, Nelson Wormbrand. Surviving are his three children, Shirley Robert Axtell, Ronald JoAnn Wormbrand, Wendy Mike Polderman; 6 grandchildren, Dale Elzinga, James Elzinga, Ann Elzinga, Scott Wormbrand, Christina Marty Vaughn, Elizabeth Brant Vallier; and 6 great-grandchildren, Tony, John, Tyler, Hannah, Emma, and Nathan. Services will be held at 1:00 o'clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre with Pastor Thomas Tufts officiating. Interment will follow in South Portage Cemetery. Friends may meet the family this afternoon from 2-4pm at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
