SCHRIER, Maurine D.
of Kalamazoo Passed away February 2, 2009 at Friendship Village, Kalamazoo. She was born January 18, 1912 in Kalamazoo, the third child of the late Frank and Etta Bouwens Niessink. She was a graduate of WMU as an art major, which remained a central focus of her life. In addition to her painting, she was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, potter, jewelry maker, gardener and cook. Maurine was united in marriage on June 6, 1935 with Neil Schrier who preceded her in death in 1994. She was a life member of First Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and was very active in the Sunday School and women's groups. Surviving Maurine are her children, Marcia Philip Schubert of Kalamazoo and Mary Lambeth of North Carolina; grandchildren, Steven Andrea Bell, Peter Lynn Bell, Melissa Lee Bailey, Rebecca Matt Barber, Jennifer Rodney Conrad, Peter Schrier, Katrin Jean-René Tassy, David Schrier, Timothy Leslie Schrier, Abigail Shaun Turner, Richard Bethany Lambeth, Erin Mark Peters; 23 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shirley Schrier; sister, Ann Sterenberg; several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were, her son, Bruce Schrier; grandson, Andrew Schrier; sister, Frances Gideon; brother, Richard Niessink. Graveside service will take place Friday, 11:00am at Riverside Cemetery section BB, lot 106, Kalamazoo. Arrangements were made by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
