Of Kalamazoo Matt passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011. He was born August 29, 1989 in Kalamazoo, the son of Scott Canney and Nancy Mack. It is easy to see that this young man lived a very full life in 21 years. He didn't sit around and wait for life to happen. He made it. He lived every moment of his 21 years, bringing so many wonderful memories to those around him. As he begins his new journey, there is no doubt that he will bring that proud, loving, nurturing, and tenacious spirit with him. Surviving are his father, Scott Canney; mother, Nancy Mack; sister, Christina; grandmother, Wanda Canney; 6 uncles, Brian Patrice Canney, Sean Canney, Kevin Vicky Canney, Bill Mack, David Mack, and Tom Mack; 3 aunts, Ann Kenneth Canney DeVisser, Mary Jane Canney, and Sue Doug Sears; and 9 cousins, Megan Canney, Kristen John Noble, Lisa DeVisser, Michael DeVisser, Austin Canney, Devin Canney, Brandon Canney, Katie Canney, Karmen Canney. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Lewis Canney, Don, and Grace Mack; uncle, Terry Canney; and 3 aunts, Mary Mack, Cathy Mack and Cindy Mack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave., with Fr. John D. Fleckenstein, celebrant. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2-6 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street and on Monday from 11 AM -12 PM at the church. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Catherine of Siena Parish or a charity of one's choice.
