of Kalamazoo MaryAnn Maxine Reed was born January 9, 1916, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Nell Bustraam Penning and passed away August 31, 2011, in Kalamazoo. On November 3, 1940, in Grand Rapids, she was united in marriage to Earl Robert Reed and they moved to the Kalamazoo area in the mid 1940s. MaryAnn was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church on Kalamazoo and had volunteered many hours with Meals on Wheels, and the Red Cross Bloodmobile. The most important part of her life was her family, caring for and preparing all those special meals and treats for those she loved. MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1986; she was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Jenna. Surviving are her children, Sally Duke Cutshaw of Vicksburg, Sue Reed of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Bill Lorie Reed of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Michael Cara Brink, Scott Brink, Jeff Brink, Kelly John Graham, Andrew Sarah Reed; nine great-grandchildren, Megan Ben, Shannon, Cody, Danielle, Morgan, Alana, Riley, Allison and Mitchell; her brother, Donald Penning of Oceanside, CA. A service to celebrate MaryAnn's life will be held 11:00am Tuesday, September 6th at the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo 315 W. Michigan Ave. with Rev. Dr. MaryBeth Sarhatt officiating. Immediately following the service the family will greet friends during a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. A private family interment will be held in Rosedale Memorial Park in Grand Rapids. Memorials in MaryAnn's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan, or First Baptist Church. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
