Mary DeDoes Vlietstra transitioned to her Eternal Heavenly Home on November 11, 2023 along with her husband of 7 months, Harold Vlietstra. Mary was born June 19, 1932 in Kalamazoo to John and Trena (Nieuwenhuis) Weststrate who immigrated from Lisse, the Netherlands. Mary graduated from Ebenezer Christian School and worked for the First National Bank downtown Kalamazoo until she met Robert “Bob” DeDoes. They were married on February 23, 1951. Together they had 5 children, Brenda Buiskool, Brian (Linda) DeDoes, Bonnie DeVries, Brad (Julie) DeDoes, Beth (Darrell) Wagaman. Mary also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Harold’s children, and several nieces and nephews. On February 17, 2018 she was preceded in death by her husband Bob DeDoes. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister, “Dolly” Potgiesser; and son-in-law, Bob DeVries. Mary was a wonderful God fearing, God loving woman who always cared for and loved others. On April 7, 2023 Mary DeDoes was united in marriage to Harold Vlietstra. They were happily married for 7 months until the Lord took them to Heaven. Friends may meet the family from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday November 17 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and from 11:00am-12:00pm Saturday November 18 at the Texas Corners Bible Church, 7780 South 8th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 where funeral services will be held at 12:00pm. Private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North. Memorials may be directed to the Texas Corners Bible Church or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
