THIEDE, Mary E.
Of Portage Mary passed away Friday morning, August 13, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born August 11, 1925 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Arthur and Edna Withem Lowry. On June 27, 1945, Mary was united in marriage to Elmer W. "Scoop" Thiede. After raising their two daughters, Mary was employed by the City of Huntington Woods, MI as Deputy Clerk until her retirement in 1987. Mary and Scoop spent many years wintering in their Jensen Beach, Florida home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, and a member of the Moors Golf Club in Portage. She also enjoyed entertaining, needlepoint, and playing bridge. Preceding her in death were her husband of 64 years, Elmer "Scoop" Thiede; her parents; and one brother, Robert Lowry. Surviving are her two daughters, Susan Michael Israel Kaplan of Ventura, CA and Nancy Dennis Purdy of Portage; five grandchildren, Jonathan Jennifer Kaplan, Sara Kaplan, Elizabeth Kevin Jackson, Emily Patrick Korroch, and Matthew Kari Purdy; and five great-grandchildren, Braden, Nikolas, Cate, Paige, and Zakary. Memorial services for Mary will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park Street, with Rev. Sandra J. Elfring officiating. Private inurnment of cremated remains for both Mary and Elmer will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
