SHORTER, Mary Kalamazoo Died February 21, 2007 at her residence with her family by her side. Mary was born August 28, 1915 in Yorkville, MI, the daughter of Valentine and Julia Nameth Orosz and was a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident. Mary was employed at Gibson Guitar where she met her future husband Welton W. Shorter. They were united in marriage on February 20, 1939. Together they enjoyed dancing and were avid snowmobilers. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her children were in school she was active in the P.T.A. and enjoyed her involvement as an assistant troop leader with the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She formerly attended the Richland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Welton in 2001 and by 3 brothers, Gus, Valentine and Joe Orosz. Surviving are 2 daughters and their spouses, Janice and Rodney Belden of Allegan and Joyce and Kenneth Bill of Galesburg; 3 grandchildren, Katherine Schafer of Allegan, Jennifer Travis Ritchie of Richland and Lori Jose Saldivar of Kalamazoo; 5 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Vanessa, Stephen and Joey; 3 sisters, Irma Draper, Julia Orosz and Betty Richards, all of Kalamazoo; a sister-in-law Kay Orosz of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 o?clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Hospice Chaplain Pat Weatherwax and the Rev. Ferenc Bauman officiating. Friends may meet the family Sunday afternoon from 3-5 pm at the funeral home. Inurnment of cremated remains will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Mary?s memory be made to Kairos Dwelling or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
