Mary Ellen Purdham

Passed away on December 17, 2024, at the age of 95. Mary was born on April 1, 1929, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Albert V. Kimball, Sr. and Isabelle Ann (Stevens) Kimball. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Purdham; sister, Virginia Davis; and brother, Albert V. Kimball, Jr. 

Growing up, sports were always her true passion. In 1948, Mary became a member of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. As a pitcher for the Racine Belles, owned by the Wrigley family, Mary was recognized by The National Baseball Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions. Mary and her husband retired to Harper Lake in Northern Michigan, where she enjoyed fishing and helping out in the local community. Upon her husband's passing, Mary moved back to the Vicksburg area to be closer to family, attending nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events on a regular basis. 

She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Maryann Purdham; one nephew, Kim (Debbie) Kimball; four nieces, Cindy Shattuck, Debi Linden, Claudia (Steve) Zimmerman, and Kari (Steve) Incremona. Also surviving are a great-niece, Marcy (Mike) Charat, and a great-nephew, Robert (Megan) Linden. Great-great nephews are Carson Charvat, Gavin Charvat, and Jack Linden, and a great-great niece Gabrielle Charvat.

Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, where a private graveside service will be held for the family.
