BRAND, Mary A.
of Kalamazoo Passed away November 21, 2009 at home. She was born February 9, 1912 in LaGrange, IN to the late John and Bertha Showalter Schermerhorn. Mary was united in marriage on December 31, 1932, to Charles H. Brand, who preceded her in death in October of 1984. She was a longtime resident of Kalamazoo where she lived on Lane Blvd. for 60 years. Mary was an excellent seamstress, quilter and gardener. She finished her first quilt at 6 years old. She was a longtime member of the Eagles Club #526 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Rebecca Lodge for approximately 40 years and she also enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader. She was also a longtime supporter of civic theatre. Surviving Mary are her children, Ralph Elaine Brand of Portage, Mary Louise Kleckner of Kalamazoo, Jacque Kay Brand of Kalamazoo, LaNita Dennis Campbell of East Lansing and Virginia Jerome Skulan of Centennial, CO; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and; 4 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Wilbur Kleckner and a great grandson, Nathanial Wheeler. Family will greet friends, Monday from 5-7:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., where services will take place on Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock, Rev.
