SMITH, Marvin E.
of Lawton Marvin passed away October 21, 2011 at home. He was born June 2, 1929, in Kalamazoo, to the late Paul and Florence Petzoldt Smith. He was a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 until being honorably discharged. For many years he was employed as a realtor, was a member of the Greater Kalamazoo Association of Realtors and throughout the years worked with various firms. Marvin was united to Gayle Burson in marriage, who preceded him in death in 2008. Also preceding Marvin in death was his son, Gregory Scott and his sister, Marilyn Herman. Surviving Marvin are his children, Eric Krysten Smith of Dexter, MI and Michelle Mike Barkovich of Lawton, MI; 4 grandchildren, Brendyn, Mikaela, Derick and Eric; brother, Arthur Pat Smith. Services will take place Monday, 1:00 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., where family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service. A private interment will follow at Schoolcraft Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Battle Creek VA Patient Activity Fund, 5100 Armstrong Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49037.
