JOHNSON, Mrs. Marvel G.
of Kalamazoo Marvel went home to meet with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born September 12, 1931 in Gobles, the only daughter of Mark and Gladys Rider Kesler. On August 1, 1953, she was united in marriage to Willis H. Johnson, who preceded her in death in 1990. She was employed by Plainwell Public Schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1992. Marvel enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and summers at her cottage in Baldwin. She was very spirited, had a quick wit, and a great sense of humor. Surviving are her three children, Bruce Shawna Johnson of Grandville, Douglas Dawn Johnson of Rockford and Sheila Johnson of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Kristina, Kendra, Amanda and Lauren; and many other family and friends. Funeral services for Marvel will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Chaplain Dennis Goodrich officiating, and friends may visit with the family from 10 AM until the time of services. Interment will follow in West Cooper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association, West Michigan Cancer Center, or Loaves and Fishes.
