LAM, Martha R.
Of Kalamazoo Departed her earthly life on October 13, 2011 following a brief illness to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior. She was born May 7, 1926, in Cincinnati, OH, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Walter Van Saun. Early years were spent in Holland, MI. Martha graduated from Hope College and taught school at several locations. Martha was united in marriage to the Rev. Donald A. Lam on June 17, 1949. As a pastor's wife she lived in Denver, CO, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Kalamazoo, MI where they later retired and Raritan, IL. She served on the Reformed Church of America Women's Ministries and the Mattawan School Board. Martha is survived by her husband, the Rev. Donald A. Lam and their children, Nicholas Debra Lam, Leslie Michael Stommen, Rev. Jonathan Mariann Lam, all of the Kalamazoo area and Thomas Dianne Lam of Mission Viejo, CA; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothea Ringenoldus. Visitation will be at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. on Sunday from 3-6 pm and one hour before the funeral service, which will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at Bethany Reformed Church, 1833 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. Fritz Kruithof and the Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger officiating. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Martha's memory be made Reformed Church Board of Benefit Service Assistance Fund, Hope College or Words of Hope.
