BERNIER, Martha J.
Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Sunday morning, July 13, 2008 following a 9 year battle with cancer. She was born July 4, 1949 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Alfred and Eva Dubbeld Johnson. Martha was employed by J.C. Penny for 20 years until her retirement in 1997, and was a member of Portage Free Methodist Church. On August 21, 1991, she was united in marriage to Winton Bernier, who survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Barb Stewart Burgess-Ameling of Paw Paw; 2 step-children, Angel Chris Fritz of Battle Creek and Lene St. John of Ukiah, CA; 1 granddaughter, Madelyn Ameling; 4 step-grandchildren, Mandi Burroughs, Colby Fritz, and Josh and Brandon Webster; her mother, Eva Johnson of Portage; 1 brother, Stephen Linnea Johnson of Brownstown; 1 sister, Charlotte Bruce Isbell of Eads, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were 1 sister, Phyllis Johnson; and her father, Alfred Johnson. Funeral services for Martha will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. Chuck Connors officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Wednesday tomorrow at the funeral home.
