Marsha Sue Curry

November 15, 1935 — May 14, 2024

Kalamazoo

Marsha Sue (Fronk) Curry, of Kalamazoo, was a universally adored mother, grandmother, GG (great-grandmother), and friend. Marsha entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born November 15, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Milo Alonzo and Beulah Marcella (Bourns) Fronk. Marsha grew up in Vicksburg, MI, and after graduating from Vicksburg High School, spent a year in Chicago, IL, at the Katharine Gibbs Finishing School. She came back to Kalamazoo and worked as a secretary at AAA for a man who eventually became her husband. She married Joseph Edwin Curry, Jr., September 10, 1955, and together they raised their three children, Joann, Martha, and Edwin. She valued family time and holiday gatherings more than anything else. More recently, her family also included the wonderful staff at what we referred to as the Alamo Hilton (Alamo Cove Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center) in Alamo.

Marsha was employed in the retail business for almost 50 years….12 years as a Buyer for the JCPenney Co, 26 years as a First Floor Supervisor for Jacobson’s Clothing Store, and 10 years at The Wild Goose Chase. Marsha enjoyed people and she knew no strangers. She was not great with names, so everyone was “darling”. Marsha had an outgoing personality and she enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Her cup was always half full and her positivity and polite spirit touched many. Apart from work, Marsha and her husband travelled most of the continental United States, even though Chicago always held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed the many arts that Kalamazoo offered, and participated as much as possible. She loved wildlife, especially birds, and she loved her puppers! She was passionate about fashion, and you could always hear her before you could see her as her bracelets were always jingling. She lived life to the fullest and never turned down a game of dominoes or a good gin-and-tonic.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Curry, Jr.; parents, Milo and Beulah Fronk; mother-in-law, Lila (Booth) Curry; father-in-law, Joseph Curry, Sr.; and sister, Carol Davis. Also preceding her in death are sisters-in-law: Phyllis Cook, Sister Gerald Ann Curry, Janice Curry, and Joyce McLain; and brothers-in-law: Harry Davis, Paul Cook, Chuck Curry, and Robert Curry.

She is survived by her children: Joann (Thomas) Munting of Kalamazoo, Martha (Mark) McNee of Kalamazoo, and Edwin (Audrey) Curry of Portage. GG was adored by her grandchildren, Marcella (Scott) Beard of Battle Creek, Kelli (Steve) Dykstra of Kalamazoo, Monica (Clarence) Lloyd of Portage, Joseph (Amber) Curry of Detroit, Jamie (Samuel) Barber of Paw Paw, Al (Eryn) Curry of Kalamazoo, and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Shirley Curry; brother-in-law, Phil Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Location, 3926 South 9th Street. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A private interment will take place at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marsha’s memory to Alamo Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, 8290 C Ave W, Kalamazoo, MI. 49009, or Centrica Care Navigators (prior Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan), 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
