Marlene Ann Whipple, age 87, of Kalamazoo passed away December 19, 2022. She was born July 26, 1935 in Crookston, Minnesota to the late Morin and Louise (Isaac) Mieke.
Marlene grew up in San Francisco and Whittier, California. She was a huge baseball fan and attended many Anaheim Angels games with her father. She also followed Derek Jeter with the New York Yankees because of his connection to Kalamazoo. Marlene graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and practiced as a nurse in Oahu, Hawaii when stationed there with her husband, Thomas. She later served numerous hospitals and skilled nursing communities in the Kalamazoo area. Together, she and Thomas raised six children. They enjoyed taking trips together, and especially loved drives on Route 66 when visiting their daughter in California. Marlene was also a fan of shopping and Western movies.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Thomas J. Whipple.
She is survived by her six children: Thomas C. Whipple, Michael S. (Terri) Whipple, Teresa (Barry Clayton) Whipple, David P. (Lisa) Whipple, Michelle Whipple, and Kenneth Whipple; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 12:00pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where family will greet friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm. Marlene will be laid to rest immediately following the service with her husband, Thomas, in Genessee Prairie Cemetery.
