SCHEFFERS, Mrs. Marjorie M.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Marjorie Mae Scheffers, age 80, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012, in Kalamazoo, MI, and went to be with her Lord. She was born on Saturday, May 14, 1932, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Jacob and Gertrude Van Someron Vander Kooy and had been a lifelong area resident. Marjorie was a member of Centerpoint Church. She developed lasting friendships as a Bible Study Fellowship leader, Sunday School teacher and Apples of Gold member. In her younger years, she enjoyed being a member of golf and bowling leagues. Her family was very important to her. She was a super mom and grandmother, a great cook and enjoyed long walks in the woods with her family and dogs. On June 19, 1953, Marjorie was united in marriage with Rudy J. Scheffers, who preceded her in death on February 9, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vernon Vander Kooy. Surviving are: four sons, Mark Patricia Scheffers of Kalamazoo, Denny Kris Scheffers of Kalamazoo, Dave Sherry Scheffers of Kalamazoo and Tim Leslie Scheffers of Portage; eleven grandchildren, Marie Scheffers, Jason Corri Scheffers, Ryan Julia Scheffers, Joel Kayla Scheffers, Cassandra Josh Corning, Tracee Scheffers, Heather Scheffers, Anna Scheffers, Benjamin Scheffers, Kimberly Tyler Slocum and Aaron Stafford; five great-grandchildren, Brayden Scheffers, Raygen Scheffers, Corlyn Weese, Savannah Scheffers and Levi Corning; two brothers, Calvin Marilyn Vander Kooy and Donald Mary Jo Vander Kooy; three sisters-in-law, Nella Mae Vander Kooy, Mick Bouma and Annie Scheffers; several nieces and nephews; and her very special friend of 13 years, Al Doorlag. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held 10:30 Saturday morning at Second Christian Reformed Church 3015 Nichols Road, with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Porte, officiating. Interment in West Cooper Cemetery will follow services. Memorials should be directed to Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association, Centerpoint Church Deacons Fund, or Park Village Pines.
