Marion Smith

Marion Smith passed away Thursday evening, October 31, 2024, at her home in Portage. She was born February 16, 1935, in Nottingham, England, the daughter of Thomas and Jinny Biddulph.

She was united in marriage in 1956 to Staff Sergeant William M. Smith in Nottingham, England. He preceded her in death in 2002 after 46 years of marriage. She has been a Portage city resident since 1959 and was a member of Portage First United Methodist Church.

Marion enjoyed playing cards with her friends, playing the lottery, and telling jokes to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, husband and son William E. Smith. She is survived by her daughter Cindy L. Bridges and husband Arthur of Portage; grandson Spencer Bridges and granddaughter Shelby Bridges both of Kalamazoo; sister Shirley and many nieces and nephews of Nottingham, England.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will gather privately to lay her into eternal rest beside her husband and son at Portage South Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Compassus Hospice and Cornerstone Caregiving for providing excellent care so she could be kept in her home of over 65 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the above agencies.
