FRIEND, Marion Elaine
Of Portage Marion was born August 14, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Hans and Leila Joynner Sorensen and passed away March 26, 2010 in Portage, Michigan. She received her Bachelor's and Master's from Western Michigan University. On December 27, 1952 she was united in marriage to Norman Harry Friend. For over 25 years she was a special needs teacher with Portage Public Schools. Marion was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose, and very active locally and internationally, currently serving as past "Grand Regent". She also was an avid square dancer and helped organize "Michigan in Motion". Preceding Marion in death was her husband, Norman on February 7, 2008; also her parents and a brother, Alan Sorensen. Surviving are her daughter and son, Barbara Machuca of Portage and Thomas Dawn Friend of Orland Park, IL; four grandchildren, Layne and A.J. Machuca, Mike and Julie Friend; a brother, Norman Virginia Sorensen of Novi; a sister, Linda John Stone of Little Rock, AR; a sister-in-law, Janet Sorensen; nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Marion's life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 3 at the Moose Lodge #88 9650 Portage Rd. followed by a reception and a time of sharing with the family.
