Estes, Marion L. Sr.
Kalamazoo Passed away Saturday morning at his home in Kalamazoo. Marion was born to Lyman and Ercyl Trop Estes on January 5, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He attended several schools in this area as well as Iowa State University. He served in the United States navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater on Destroyer Escort 415. The crew received 5 bronze stars for five campaigns and 2 silver stars for sinking 2 submarines. He worked for Humphrey Products Company for 371/2 years, many as their Personnel Director. During his working years, he served as President of Eagles #526, President of the Personnel Association and President of the Safety Engineers Association. He further served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Safety Council of Southwest Michigan. He always referred to the employees of Humphrey Products as his ?Second Family?. Marion was a member of Sunnyside United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a; son, Douglas Estes; brothers, Clarence and William Estes. He is survived by his wife, Eunice E. Silman Estes; a son Marion Jr. Cheryle Estes and; a daughter Patricia Steven Billingsley of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Tina Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Chris Chambers, Matthew Jody Lemmer, Janice Lemmer and Zachary Billingsley; great grandchildren, Brandy, Jamiela and Brandon Fitzsimmons, Aria Brieanne Chambers and Jude Francis Lemmer and; sister, Carolyn Eckelbecker of Lansing and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 26 from 2 ? 4:00 and 6 ? 8:00pm. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, June 27 , 11:00AM at Sunnyside Methodist Church, 2800 Gull Rd., Kalamazoo, Rev. Billie Dalton, officiating. Interment immediately following, at Comstock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Borgess Hospice and VNA or Sunnyside United Methodist Church.
