VYKYDAL, Marilyn B.
of Portage Marilyn, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, October 24th, 2012 with her family by her side. Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Richard W. Vykydal. Dear mother to Richard B. Marianne Vykydal of Onsted, MI and Lisa M. Eric Conrad of Canton, MI. Loving grandmother to Rebecca, Danielle, Phillip, Lindsay, and Zachary. She is also survived by her brother Russell C. Brown Jr., brother-in-law Donald Abler, sister-in-law Mary Ann Vykydal, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Virginia, Patricia Abler and Doris Beznitz. She was born on April 14th, 1929 to Russell C. and Catherine Lehner Brown. She graduated in 1946 from Dominican High School in Detroit and went on to study nursing at Providence Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. degree in 1951. After graduation, she worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit, and for a short time, in Lihue, on the island of Kauai, HI. She was married to Richard on September 10th, 1955 and began living in Novi, MI, where they were longstanding members of Our Lady of Victory parish in Northville. In 1978, her family moved to Centreville, MI., attending St. Claire parish. In 1999, they retired to Portage, MI, where they have been active members in St Catherine of Siena Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and a deep devotion to her faith. The family will receive friends from 2-5 pm on Sunday, Oct 28th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. Following a 1 hour viewing from 10-11 am on Monday, Oct 29th, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave., Portage by Msgr. Michael Hazard. A private interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
