Marilyn Joyce Osterhouse died unexpectedly Friday September 2, 2022, at her home. She was born June 12, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI daughter of the late Cornelius and Helena (VanderSalm) VanDyke and had been a lifelong area resident.

Marilyn was an active member of Amazing Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in Portage, where she played piano weekly. She gave several people, young and old, piano lessons up to the time of her death. She was an excellent seamstress, altering clothes for many people and making new clothes including several wedding and bridesmaid dresses. Marilyn had several hobbies including making stained glass items, creating several wood carvings, and knitting. Grandma made and carved a special wooden storage chest for each of her grandchildren at graduation, which are and will be cherished dearly by each of them. She was a member of several different wood carving clubs. She would host a woodcarving class in her home on Thursday evenings.

On February 22, 1957, Marilyn married Dale Osterhouse who preceded her in death on November 29, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John VanDyke. Marilyn is survived by her sons and spouses: Jeffery (Lynn) Osterhouse, Daniel (Denise) Osterhouse, Timothy (Diana) Osterhouse, and Ronald (Laura) Osterhouse; grandchildren: Andrea (Chris) Blodgett, Kelli (Josh) Douglas, Brandon (Ariel) Osterhouse, Eric (Mistye) Osterhouse, Heather (Eric) Hudson, Kayla (Kevin) Franz, Sara (Jackson) Schelb, Amanda Osterhouse, Cody (Lea) Osterhouse, Caroline (Joe) Varga; great-grandchildren: Addison, Alexis, and Andrew Blodgett, Jackson and Jordyn Douglas, Natalee and Baby (expected January, 2023) Osterhouse, Reece and Calli Hudson, Noah Franz, Julien and baby (expected October, 2022) Schelb; sister, Kathleen Hubbard; sister-in-law, Linda VanDyke; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th St, Kalamazoo MI 49009 where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022.
