Marilyn L. Smith

Mrs. Marilyn L. Smith, of Kalamazoo, died surrounded by her family on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2024, in Kalamazoo at age 93. A lifelong member of Lighthouse Community Church, Marilyn was a resident of Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Marilyn had been a teacher in the Portage Public School System, and later, a loving homemaker. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James (“Scotty”) Smith, her siblings, Patricia Burnett, John Bigley, Martin Bigley, and Norman Bigley, and her sister-in-law, Josephine Smith. 

She is survived by her sister, Caroline Meints, her daughter, Heather (Andrew) Simon, her sons, Gregory Smith and Alistair (Mary) Smith, her grandchildren, Lindsey Cobbe, Alistair Smith II, Tanner Smith, and Abigail Taylor, as well as four great-grandchildren. 

Friends may call at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 South 11th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, before the Celebration of Marilyn’s Life Service to be held at 11:00 AM at the church, with Rev. Bruce Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Texas Township. Memorial gifts may be made to Lighthouse Community Church or the charity of your choice.
