Portage, MI Died Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Marie was born April 23, 1910 in Cleveland, OH a daughter of Jeremiah and Isabelle Batt McCarthy. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 36 years, coming from Cleveland, OH. Marie was employed as an RN with University Hospitals and Mt. Sinai Hospital, both in Cleveland, OH for 30 years before retiring. She was also a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George J. Hayes on September 10, 1983; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Robert Fosmoe of Portage; 5 grandchildren, Kathleen, James, Margaret, Richard, and Patricia Ann; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
